The ethnic "isle"of
Sappada is located in the eastern Dolomites, along the Piave River valley, between
Comelico, Carnia and the Austrian Gailtal valleys. Probably colonized around the 13th
century by ancient south-bavarian people, Sappada shows a strong attachment to its
history and traditions characteristic in the houses built in the old "Blockbau"
fashion, and in its dialect and folklore. The town is a well equipped winter ski-resort as
well as an ideal spot for enjoying all sorts of sports and activities in the
summer.
